Like their ancestor they were textile merchants and particularly manufacturers of silk. The Teyler family was very wealthy. A well-known member was Pieter Teyler van der Hulst. A branch of this family lived in Amsterdam ca. l660-ca. l780. Most of the Amsterdam Teylers were Zonists, though some were Lamists . Both in Haarlem and Amsterdam a number of Teylers were deacons.
