Garbrant Gabbisz (Gerbrand Gabesz) van der Scellingh (from the island of Terschelling?), a Dutch Anabaptist martyr, was sentenced to death by the sword on 15 April 1540 at Alkmaar, province of North Holland, because he had been rebaptized and did not believe in the "holy sacrament of the Mass." He is thought to have been a follower of the revolutionary Anabaptist leader Jan van Batenburg.
