Karel (Charles) van Tiegem (Thieghem), an Anabaptist martyr, steadfastly suffered martyrdom at the stake on 20 December 1560 (van Braght, Martyrs' Mirror, erroneously has 1559 without exact date), at Kortrijk (Courtrai) in Flanders, Belgium. Karel was a native and citizen of Kortrijk. At first he was a shoemaker, then a weaver. His few possessions were confiscated.
