Jan Hulle, an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake in 1561 at Ieper (Yperen) in Belgium. The information of van Braght, who states that he died faithfully, does not contain any particulars. Apparently Jan Hulle was a victim of the inquisitor Titelman, who in 1561 severely persecuted the congregation of Ieper and other Flemish towns. If the name should be Jan van Hulle, this martyr very likely belonged to the Mennonite van Hulle family, which was found in Ghent and Antwerp in Belgium, and whose descendants in the 17th and 18th centuries lived at Haarlem in the Netherlands.
