Martijn Pietersz, beheaded at Rotterdam, Holland, on 22 December 1534, had attended Anabaptist meetings at The Hague, and had also planned to go to Münster, Westphalia in March 1534, but did not actually go. He had been (re) baptized in April 1534; thereupon he visited Haarlem, Flanders, and the Dutch province of Zeeland; he also repeatedly stayed in Amsterdam. He was arrested in December 1534 at Rotterdam and put to death, not for Anabaptism, but for pocket-picking. There would be no reason for naming him here except for the fact that his confession gives very valuable material concerning the spread of Anabaptism in the Netherlands in 1534.
