Albertus van Delden, Dutch Minister of Finance, was born 21 February 1828 at Deventer, and died 7 November 1898. He never married, but lived with his unmarried sister.
He rendered outstanding service to his native city, his country, and the Mennonite brotherhood. From 1858 until his death he held high and honorable political office in provincial (Overijssel) and national legislative bodies, and finally the portfolio of Minister of Finance in the cabinet. His service to the Mennonite Church in Deventer was equally outstanding. In 1862 he became a member of the church council, and then its treasurer. For some years, when his political duties kept him away from home for long periods, he resigned this position, but after this obstacle was removed, he gave the church his devoted and untiring service as deacon and chairman.
He was a simple man who avoided all show and cared nothing for the applause of the world. He persistently followed the way he felt was right. With his money he was very generous. He fully deserved his place of honor in city, nation, and church.
