Neuss is a town on the Rhine (coordinates: 51.200278, 6.693889 [51° 12′ 1″ N, 6° 41′ 38″ E]) which formerly belonged to the bishop and elector of Cologne, Germany. A letter written by Hans Busschaert in 1570 (found in Antwerpsch archievenblad XII, 26 f.) indicates that a Mennonite congregation existed at Neuss, of which there is, however, no further information. Andreas of Neuss (Andreas von Neiss) was a Hutterite elder who baptized at Paurbach in Moravia about 1535.
A Mennonite family by the name of Neuss (or Neiss), the ancestors of the American Nice family, lived in the 17th century in the German Rhineland, particularly at Krefeld.
