Johann Kliewer was one of the last elders of the [[Deutsch-Wymysle (Poland)|Deutsch-Wymysle Mennonite Church]] (Poland). He was ordained elder in 1885 and joined the local newly established [[Mennonite Brethren Church|Mennonite Brethren]] congregation on 17 July 1893, where he continued his service as a minister. On 4 November 1895 he was ordained co-elder of the congregation. The Deutsch-Wymysle Mennonite Church chose Johann Schmidt as his successor. He also joined the Mennonite Brethren.

On 22 May 1876 Johann married Emilie Wohlgemuth (14 April 1858, [[Deutsch-Wymysle (Masovian Voivodeship, Poland)|Deutsch-Wymysle]], Poland - 3 April 1930, Deutsch-Wymysle, Poland), daughter of Heinrich Wohlgemuth and Anna (Foth) Wohlgemuth. Johann and Emilie had 13 children, including 8 that died in infancy or childhood. Johann died on 25 January 1942 in Deutsch-Wymysle.
