Greenwood Mennonite School, located at Greenwood, Delaware, which is operated by the Conservative Mennonite Church, had its beginning in February 1928. The first 4 1/2 years the school was held in the basement of the church, and then in the fall of 1932 a school building was built. This building was  to  last until 1958, when a new brick structure was erected on the Mark Swartzentruber farm just off Route 36, two miles east of Greenwood. This second building contained 4 classrooms, a gymnasium, and a cafeteria.  In 1964 an adjoining building containing 2 classrooms was constructed for grades 1-4. Kindergarten began in 1976.    In 1978, grades 11 and 12 were added to the school using the Accelerated Christian Education program. In 1979, three new rooms were added to accommodate Kindergarten, grades 5 and 6, and the music and art classes. In 1987 a mobile classroom was purchased. In 1993 another addition was completed that included  four classrooms, a computer lab and library, a new gym and cafeteria. In the summer of 1996, three new offices and 2 classrooms were built within the original gym.

In 1943 the board hired a second teacher, and after that time two years of high school was offered. In 1950 three teachers began to be employed, with an approximate enrollment of 70 to 80 pupils in grades one to ten, most of them children of members of the congregation. In 2007 the enrollment was about 290  students in grades 1-12. The school had an administrator, an assistant principal and over 20 teachers and staff. At that time it was owned and operated by the Greenwood and Cannon Mennonite Churches. A seven-member board provided oversight.
