Gerrit Karsdorp was<strong> </strong>a minister belonging to an old Mennonite family of [[Leiden (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Leiden]], several branches of which lived in North [[Germany|Germany]]. He was the first salaried minister of the Hamburg Mennonite Church, receiving 1200 marks annually. He was zealous in promoting the instruction of the children, and had 60 Dutch question-and-answer books sent from Holland for this purpose. He died on 19 September 1750.
