Wiersema, a Mennonite family found in the Dutch province of Groningen since the 17th century. Luitjen Olferts (Wiersema, or Wiersum), d. 1784 at Eenrum, was a lay preacher of the Rasquert (Baflo) congregation 1757-84. Enno Wiersema (ca. 1720-85), who was trained for the ministry by one of the ministers in the town of Groningen, served 1744-45 at Ouddorp and 1745-85 at Winterswijk, also taking charge of the Zutphen congregation, whose pulpit was mostly vacant. He was married in 1747 to Magtelt Waliën of Winterswijk. At present there are still a number of Wiersemas in the province of Groningen.
