Simon van Vliermaal, a locksmith, was burned at the stake in 1534 at Curingen (Curanges) near Hasselt, Belgium. He confessed that he was an Anabaptist, and that his coreligionists were planning to bathe the country in fire and blood. This Simon of Vliermaal shows that revolutionary Anabaptism was at this time also found in northeastern Belgium.
