Jacquemijne de Wilde, an Anabaptist martyr, widow of the martyr Gillis Rooze, was imprisoned in February 1568 at Bruges, Belgium, together with 13 other Mennonites, when their meeting was sur­prised by the police. Nine of them recanted, but Jacquemijne remained faithful to the end and died as a martyr at the stake between 13 April and 28 July 1568.
