Joris (Joris Christiaensz) was an Anabaptist martyr drowned in a tub in the Steen castle prison at Antwerp, Belgium on 27 January 1560, with Jan (Hans) Gielis (or de Backer), Anthonis Cleys (Claesz), and Thielman Naeberchs. Van Braght's Martyrs' Mirror does not mention Joris Christiaensz or Thielman Naeberchs, but gives an account on Hans de Backer, Anthonis Claesz, and Joris Tielemans. Obviously van Braght has confused Joris Christiaensz and Thielman Naeberchs, making of these two persons only one martyr. The facts are made clear by P. Génard in Antwerpsch Archievenblad. Joris is celebrated in the hymn "Aenhoort Godt, hemelsche Vader" (Hear, O God, heavenly Father), which is found in Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren (No. 61 of the 16th hymn).
