Sardis Community Church began in September 1975 as an outreach of Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church in Chilliwack. Ten families met as two home groups in the Sardis area. By May 1976, with 39 members, they became an independent church, joining the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. As the outreach grew a church was built and completed in 1980. A lower Education wing was completed 1982-1984. While the church continued to grow it was also decided to build an annex building that was completed in 1992.
Sardis Community Church is aptly named, having a strong community focus. Its programs include home groups, ministry to those in need, and ministry to single mothers. However, Sardis also has an emphasis on missions, supporting conference missions, Mennonite Central Committee and work in Peru and Mexico.
