Traalau (also known as Tralau; now known as Tralewo; coordinates: 54.103, 19 [54° 6′ 10″ N, 19° 0′ 0″ E]; population in 1905, 231; in 2012, 230) is located approximately 9 kilometres (6 miles) north of Malbork (Marienburg), 15 km. (9 mi.) south-west of Nowy Dwór Gdański (Tiegenhof), 26 km. (16 mi.) south-west of Elbląg (Elbing), and 38 km. (24 mi.) south-east of the regional capital Gdańsk (Danzig).
Traalau was founded in 1399 or 1470. Until 1772 Traalau was located in what was known as Royal Prussia (also known as Polish Prussia) in the Kingdom of Poland. The First Partition of Poland in 1772 resulted in the creation of a new province in 1773, called West Prussia, in which Traalau was located. Traalau was situated in the district (Kreis) of Marienburg until the establishment of the Free City of Danzig in 1920. The village came under the control of Nazi Germany during World War II until February 1945, when it was occupied by Soviet forces and returned to Poland. In 2012 Traalau (now Tralewo) was a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nowy Staw, within Malbork County, Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The 1776 Prussian census lists four Mennonite families in Traalau with the following surnames: Claasen, Dircksen, Epp, and Regehr. In 1820, Traalau had 140 inhabitants, including 13 Mennonites. In 1885, the village had 512 hectares, 21 houses, 257 Catholics and Lutherans, and 36 Mennonites. In 1912, there were seven Mennonite families, and in 1936, 10 families.
Mennonites who were residents of Traalau were members of the Heubuden Mennonite Church.
