Wilhelm Crichton, born 1732 at [[Königsberg in Bayern (Freistaat Bayern, Germany)|Königsberg]], died 1805 as a Reformed chaplain. In addition to various writings on theological subjects, he published two collections of <em>Urkunden und Beiträge zur Preussischen Geschichte aus handschriftlichen Nachrichten</em>. From the second part of the above he republished a section as a separate booklet of 44 pages under the title, <em>Zur Geschichte der Mennoniten</em> (Königsberg, 1786). It contains a list of works previously published about the Mennonites, and expresses the author's opinion "that most of the information comes from men who were possessed by prejudices against them, and were probably also filled with passion, hate, and bitter envy." Then follows a listing of events and regulations concerning the Mennonites in [[East Prussia|East]] and [[West Prussia|West Prussia]] from 1545 to 1780, for the most part taken from older works.
