The council was granted a government charter in 1960. The executive was comprised of J. J. Thiessen, chair, C. A. DeFehr, vice-chair, and A. A. Wiens, secretary. In 1963 the council, along with a number of other Mennonite organizations, formed Mennonite Central Committee Canada.
