Opalinski, Kasimir Johann (d. 1693), Bishop of [[Culm (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland)|Culm]], Poland ([[West Prussia|West Prussia]] from 1772 to 1918), the scion of an old Polish family which was named for the town of Opalencia near [[Poznań Voivodeship (Poland)|Posen]]. His father was Voivode of Kalisch. He entered a monastery at an early age. His first opportunity to demonstrate his zeal was in driving all the heretics from the estates of the Cistercian monastery at Blesen, of which he was abbot. In 1681 he was appointed Bishop of Culm. To the Mennonites of the Culm Marsh, who were needed to drain the land, he issued a document of protection on 27 June 1689, promising the toleration of their religion.
