In November 1954 Alberto Enns arrived in Paraguay from Argentina and did house-to-house visitation work in the Las Mercedes neighborhood of Asunción. The first church planting effort emerged among the German-speaking Mennonite Brethren from the Chaco, supported by the missionary board of the Mennonite Brethren churches from the USA and Canada. The first baptism took place on 12 July 1956. On 13 July 1958 the church officially began to hold regular public services in the “Hospital de Clínicas” or “Dr. Francia” neighborhood.
In 1960 (May-June) volunteers from the Mennonite Brethren church in Fernheim helped to construct the walls of the church yard, and on 7 October 1961 the church building was officially inaugurated as the “Iglesia de Clínicas” (Church of the Hospital neighborhood). Some pioneering collaborators were: Juan Pankratz, Juan and Susana Wiens, Mary Martens, Rodolfo Plett, Ernesto Eitzen, Noemi Caballero, Enrique Ratzlaff and Leonor Rojas.
In 2019 Roberto and Chiara Formigli served as pastors of the congregation, carrying out the work of the church in collaboration with lay leaders in various ministries. In 2019 the congregation reported the following statistics: members 31; non-members 8; children 14; Instituto Biblico Asunción students 4; total attendance 57. The ministries of the church in 2019 included: Youth Ministry, Children's Treasures Club of the King, Ministry of Praise, Tambourine and Ribbons, Ladies Ministry, Sunday School, Finance, and nurture groups for ladies, men, and youth.
