Laurens Pietersz (Lauwereins Peters), an Anabaptist martyr, was burned at the stake on 30 March 1568 on the Veerle square at Ghent, Belgium, with Jan van Parijs, Pieter Aelbrechts (Pierken van Cleve), and Hendrik Maelschap. They were executed in a barbarous manner. They had not yet been baptized on their faith. Their names are found in a hymn, "Als men schreef duyst vijhondert jaer ende twee en tsestich mede," No. 1 of the supplement to the Lietboecxken van den Offer des Heeren. Laurens was (according to the records) a native of de Kempen, a region northwest of Antwerp.
