Milo Franklin Kauffman was born 13 February 1898 near Harrisonville, Missouri, USA). He spent his boyhood on a farm in North Dakota. He received the BA degree from Hesston College, the BD degree from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, the MA degree from McCormick Theological Seminary and the STD degree from Pikes Peak Seminary. He married Clara Fricke in 1931; they were parents of nine children.

From 1932 to 1951 Kauffman served as president of Hesston College (Kansas). His optimistic, positive leadership was instrumental in leading the school through difficulties caused by the Great Depression into a period of growth and vitality.

Following Kauffman's ordination to the ministry 7 December 1924, he served the church as pastor, evangelist, overseer of Mennonite Church (MC) congregations in Kansas, Bible instructor, assistant in church relations for Hesston College, moderator of conferences, and writer. He wrote Personal Works (1940), The Challenge of Christian Stewardship (1955), and The Stewards of God (1975).

In 1953 he prepared the Conrad Grebel Lectures on the subject of Christian stewardship. The lectures were given in more than 250 churches in the United States, Canada, India, and Japan. Milo Kauffman died 19 April 1988 in Hesston, Kansas.
