Johannes (John), Risser, a minister in the Mennonite congregation at [[Friedelsheim (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Friedelsheim]], [[Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Palatinate]], [[Germany|Germany]], 1825-32, where among other things he conducted missionary meetings. He was born at Friedelsheim, 27 November 1788. In 1813 he married Katharina Weber, who was related to the Mellinger family. In 1832 he immigrated to [[North America|America]]. They as well as their relatives who had previously immigrated to Mellingers in [[Pennsylvania (USA)|Pennsylvania]] sent reports on travel and on America to their old home. Excerpts of these have been published in the <em>[[Mennonite Quarterly Review|Mennonite Quarterly Review]]</em>. The German originals were probably published early in the 20<sup>th</sup> century in a newspaper of [[Worms (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Worms]]. German excerpts were printed in the <em>Wappenkunde</em> of the Palatinate shortly before the appearance of the English version. Johannes Risser purchased some land and settled in Mifflin Township, Richland County, [[Ohio (USA)|Ohio]], not far from Mansfield in 1833. In 1845 he published a booklet on baptism, <em>Glaube und Lehre von der Taufe der Mennoniten in Deutschland.
