Georg Karl David Loesche (1855-1932) was a meritorious [[Austria|Austrian]] church historian who studied at the universities of Bonn, Tübingen, and [[Berlin (Germany)|Berlin]]. In 1880, he became pastor of the German church in Florence, [[Italy|Italy]], in 1885 instructor at the University of Berlin, and in 1887 professor of church history on the Protestant faculty of the University of Vienna. Among his numerous publications his <em>Geschichte des Protestantismus in Oesterreich </em>(3rd edition, 1930) deals especially with the [[Anabaptism|Anabaptists]], as do also his articles "Zur Geschichte des Protestantismus in Oberösterreich" and "Tirolensia" in Nos. 45 and 47 of the <em>Jahrbuch der Gesellschaft für die Geschichte des Protestantismus im ehemaligen und im neuen Oesterreich. </em>For 40 years he was the editor of this periodical, which became very important for the study of the history of Protestantism in Austria.
