Carl Christian Philipp Tauchnitz (1798-1884), a prominent German book dealer, and a warm friend of the German Mennonites. In the winter of 1830 a Baptist preacher in London told him about the German Mennonites, and when he returned to Germany he visited Weierhof, [[Monsheim (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Monsheim]], Kindenheim, Spitalhof, and [[Sembach (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Sembach]]. In 1831 he became acquainted with several congregations in Baden, where "the Easter days passed very pleasantly and blessedly." On 17 April of that year he preached in Spitalhof on the occasion of the baptism of J. Rothen. He frequently took part in the conferences of the Mennonites in the [[Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany)|Palatinate]] and Hesse. He promoted the publication of the first Palatine hymnal (1832) by friendly persuasion of the opponents of the book. He corresponded with most of the Palatine preachers and by word and deed aided in the revival of the brotherhood.
