Windesheim, a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel, where a monastery was founded in 1385, which was the center of the Windesheim monastic order issuing from the Brethren of the Common Life movement. This monastic order stressed knowledge of the Bible and reading of the Bible in the vernacular and cultivated evangelical piety. According to Kühler, it prepared the soil for Sacramentism and Anabaptism.
