Hans Huiuff, one of the first group of Zürich Anabaptists, a member of the Conrad Grebel circle of 1524-25 and cosigner of the letter to Thomas Müntzer of 5 September 1524, a goldsmith, native of Halle a.d. Saale, Germany. Huiuff was evidently the son of the court goldsmith of Cardinal Albrecht of Mainz. His brother brought some of Müntzer's booklets from Saxony to Zürich, which occasioned the negative attitude of the Grebel circle to Müntzer's revolutionary ideas. Huiuff became a full member of the Anabaptist circle in Zurich, apparently a close friend of Heinrich Aberli, and in fellowship with the Zollikon brotherhood. The Zürich Taujerakten reports that on 23 December 1525, he was haled before court for a hearing and then released from prison. He must have been imprisoned in November with the other Zurich Anabaptists who were arrested in Grüningen. His testimony suggests that he was weakening in his Anabaptism, since he reports having "gone to church" and makes other qualifying statements.
