Antoine I de Lalaing, 1st count of Hoogstraten and of Culemborg: a Dutch stadtholder; born in 1480, son of Joost de Lalaing and Bonne van Viefville. He married Elisabeth van Culemborg, from whom he inherited the titles of Hoogstraten and Culemborg. He died in 1540.
Antoine I de Lalaing was one of the confidential agents and co-operators of Charles V. In 1522 he was appointed stadholder of the provinces of Holland, Zeeland, and West-Friesland.
in 1528 also of Utrecht. Being an orthodox Catholic he was a violent opponent of heresies; he especially took severe measures to extirpate the Anabaptist movement at Amsterdam in 1534-1535.
