Meppel, a city in the Dutch province of Drenthe, where there has been a Mennonite church since 1880. On 11 January 1880 the congregation dedicated a church, for which Tj. Kielstra of Zwartsluis preached the dedicatory sermon. An organ was installed in 1897. Kielstra served the two congregations at Meppel and Zwartsluis until 1886, and was followed by H. Koekebakker, who also had charge of both churches. Since 1893 the Meppel congregation has had its own preacher.
B. P. Plantinga served until 1897 (during his term a congregation was organized at Assen, which the Meppel minister looked after), A. Binnerts Szn 1897-1902, W. J. Kühler 1902-1905, and Th. H. van Veen 1905-1940. In 1942-1946 the Meppel congregation was served by the pastor of Steenwijk. In 1946-1949 W. J. Fleischer served at Meppel, H. R. Keuring 1950-1952, and L. Laurense 1953- .
The union with Assen lasted until 1916. In the next year this congregation secured a pastor of its own. In 1918-1940 the Meppel ministers also had pastoral charge of Zwartsluis, and since 1950 again of Assen.
In 1896 the membership was 78; in 1939 it was 90, and in 1956, 145. A new parsonage was acquired in 1946. There was a women's circle, a Sunday school for children, and youth groups for ages 12-16.
