Doetinchem is a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland, where in 1903 a Doopsgezinde Kring (group of Mennonites) was founded, in charge of S. D. A. Wartena, pastor of Zutphen. Services were regularly held and catechismal instruction was given; on 12 July 1903 a baptismal service took place here. But a few years later this group had dissolved. A new group organized on 22 October 1947, and was called Kring Doetinchem en omgeving. The group started with 29 members (34 in 1954). During the 1950s it met one evening a month for discussion, and cooperated with the Nederlandse Protestanten-Bond (association of liberal Christians) in organizing church services. Miss J. M. Eelman, the Mennonite minister of Winterswijk, was in charge of this group at that time.
