Teyler, a former Dutch Mennonite family. The ancestor of this family was Thomas Taylor (1561/2-1655), who moved from England to Haarlem, Holland, where his descendants lived for about two centuries. Like their ancestor they were textile merchants and particularly manufacturers of silk. The Teyler family was very wealthy. A branch of this family lived in Amsterdam ca. 1660-ca. 1780. Most of the Amsterdam Teylers were Zonists, though some were Lamists . Both in Haarlem and Amsterdam a number of Teylers were deacons.
