Lüthi (Luthi, Lüthy) is a well-known Swiss Mennonite family name. Hans Lüthi, of Eggenwil, canton of Aargau, was present at the Anabaptist debate at Bern in 1538. In the 17th century, members of this family were found near Rauperswil in the Emmental. In the decades prior to the 1950s some Lüthis moved from Switzerland to Alsace; about 1800 some of them were living in the valley of Ste-Marie aux Mines, Alsace, in 1955 in the Montbeliard congregation. To this family also belonged the preacher Hans Lüthi of Sumiswald, and perhaps also the Anabaptist martyr Hans Ludi, executed at Basel in 1530.
