Winkel, a small village in the Dutch province of North Holland, about four miles from Barsingerhorn (coordinates: 52° 45′ 0″ N, 4° 54′ 0″ E), was in 1533-34 a center of Anabaptist activity, nearly the whole population being Anabap­tist. Anabaptism was not rooted out here in the campaign of Reinier Brunt in early 1534; in 1540-41 mention is made of Anabaptism in Winkel, and still in 1558 Mennonite meetings were held here.
