Warnaars (Warnaers, Warners, Warnaer, Warner, Werner, Warnaertsen), a Dutch family, originally living in the district of Twente, province of Overijssel, where some of its members by marriage became Mennonites ca. 1640. Until ca. 1875 some were members of the Mennonite congregation of Almelo, and some also of Enschede. At first they were weavers and lumber and linen merchants; later some were wholesale dealers. Many of them served the church of Almelo as deacons, and Gerrit Warnaars (1663-ca. 1728) was a lay preacher, serving at Almelo until 1697 and 1697-1728 (?) at Haarlem. Lourens Warners, a preacher of the Groningen Old Flemish church at Emden, East Friesland, 1721-1760, may also have been a member of this family. A side branch of this family, found at Amsterdam from ca. 1670, was engaged in business, banking, and insurance, and furnished some deacons, while two of them were trustees of the Algemeene Doopsgezinde Sociëteit.
