Johannes Nettes, who was born 1707 at [[Alkmaar (Noord Holland, Netherlands)|Alkmaar]] and died 1777 at [[Leiden (Zuid-Holland, Netherlands)|Leiden]], was a physician at [[Middelburg (Zeeland, Netherlands)|Middelburg]], in the Dutch province of [[Zeeland (Netherlands)|Zeeland]], and an elder of the local Mennonite congregation 1729-1772. In 1742 he obtained his medical degree at the University of Leiden. He was renowned as an oculist and eye surgeon. He operated on the eye of a princess of Orange. Johannes Nettes, who was born 1707 at Alkmaar and died 1777 at Leiden, was a physician at Middelburg, in the Dutch province of Zeeland, and an elder of the local Mennonite congregation 1729-1772. In 1742 he obtained his medical degree at the University of Leiden. He was renowned as an oculist and eye surgeon. He operated on the eye of a princess of Orange. In 1772 he retired from the ministry, moved to Leiden, and devoted himself to the practice of medicine.
