Adriaen van Kortrijk (Adriaen van Cuertrycke), a deacon (or preacher) of the Mennonite congregation of Ghent, Belgium, in 1545 wrote a letter, in the name of the congregations of Ghent, Meenen, Roesselare, Hondschoote, Nijpkerke, and Waastene, to the congregation of Antwerp requesting that an elder be sent to these congregations because "they are in trouble and young and they do not receive enough visits from elders." No answer to this letter is known.
