Gillis Schrijver, a Mennonite elder of Flanders, Belgium, came several times in 1566-1567 to Harlingen, Dutch province of Friesland, in order to settle the Flemish-Frisian quarrel. In the 17th century a Schrijver family is found in the Netherlands, one of whom was Pieter Schrijver, a Mennonite preacher at Hoorn and Amsterdam.
