The Emmanuel Mennonite congregation began services and formally organized in 1986 with John P. Klassen as the founding leader of the group. The congregation originated through outreach by the [[Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church (Winkler, Manitoba, Canada)|Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church]], who in 1984 decided to purchase the [[Grace Mennonite Church (Winkler, Manitoba, Canada)|Grace Mennonite Church]] building (960 Pembina Ave., Winkler, Manitoba, Canada) for this new church-planting venture. In 2006 the congregation built a new church and moved to their present location on 15th Street.

On March 2, 1986 a group met for their first worship service in a newly acquired building at 950 Pembina Avenue (former [[Grace Mennonite Church (Winkler, Manitoba, Canada)|Grace Mennonite Church]]).  Later that year, on October 19, 1986, Emmanuel Mennonite Church was officially founded with a membership of 102 adult believers.

Emmanuel Mennonite Church in Winkler, Manitoba began as an expansion of the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church (WBMC). Following a 1984 baptism service at the church, minister J.K.
