Zoar Academy and Bible School (Inman, Kansas, USA)
At the 1914 annual conference session of the Krimmer Mennonite Brethren (KMB), it was agreed to erect a building for a Bible school. The Zoar KMB Church of Inman, Kansas, was delegated to take the initiative in planning and building a school at Inman. The following spring a two-story brick building was constructed, with two classrooms on the main floor and an auditorium on the second, on land contributed by Peter Vogt. On 30 September 1915, the building was dedicated, and in a few days the school opened its doors to 29 students for a six-month term. Under the able administration of Frank V. Wiebe the enrollment in a few years increased to 70. After several years the term was increased to eight months and later to nine months. In keeping with the objective of this school, the subjects of the first years were Bible and related subjects. With the nine months' term secular subjects were offered along with the Bible subjects, which remained compulsory. The purpose of this school as stated in its catalog was "To give the student a thorough Bible knowledge, to build and cultivate a strong Christian character, to train for leadership and Christian service."
This school operated for 30 years under the direction and support of the Zoar church and community. It gradually became obvious that better facilities had to be provided. In a united effort with other Mennonite churches in the Hutchinson and Buhler area, an inter-Mennonite corporation was organized, which established the Central Christian High School in Hutchinson, Kansas, in 1948, in which the Zoar constituency had an active part.
