Zion Mennonite Fellowship in Elmira, Ontario, Canada began as a church plant by neighboring Mennonite churches--Elmira Mennonite, Bethel Mennonite, Hawkesville Mennonite and St. Jacobs Mennonite. According to Ray Brubacher, pastor of Elmira Mennonite at the time, the vision was for a church that had "a different format, a different type of facility, maybe not a conventional church building, reaching out into the community in new and creative ways, possibly a different style of worship that would appeal to a broader spectrum of people."

Services began in January 1987 in the Royal Canadian Legion building, and continued for almost 10 years. The space was quite adequate for worship, but limited other visions for congregational programming. In 1996 the congregation obtained approval for use of a property on the main street of downtown Elmira. It would allow for regular congregational programs as well child care (Play Junction) and youth programs (Youth Junction). The first service in the new space took place on 16 June 2016.

On its website in 2017, Zion Mennonite described its mission "to be a Christ-like presence that extends God’s love in our community."
