Zijpp, van der, a Dutch Mennonite family, originally from Lippenhuizen in Friesland, from where Wytse Atses moved to Warns about 1745. At Warns this family lived for many generations, all members being farmers until recent times, and often deacons of the church. Wytse Atses was a preacher of the Gorredijk-Lippenhuizen congregation 1726-c.1745 and probably also at Warns, though the years of his serving are unknown. His son Atse Wytses (1725-1808) was a (lay) preacher of the Warns congregation from 1750 until his death. He was a somewhat conservative but capable and assiduous leader, moderator of the Zuiderklasse. He was nominated curator of the University of Franeker in 1796, when there was question of appointing a Mennonite professor of Theology at this university. He too was a farmer. His children took the family name of van der Zijpp in 1810.

Wietze Sierds van der Zijpp (1831-1915) was a deacon of the congregation at Molkwerum for 42 years. Pieter N. van der Zijpp (1859-1924) was for many years treasurer of the Warns congregation and his brother Jacob N. van der Zijpp (1869-1949) a deacon at Hindeloopen. Nanne (Jacobs) van der Zijpp (b. 2 April 1900 at Warns, d. 22 January 1965 at Rotterdam) was educated for the ministry at the university and Mennonite seminary at Amsterdam and served as pastor at Zijldijk 1926-28, Joure 1928-40, Almelo 1940-1946, and Rotterdam 1946-?. In 1946 he began teaching Mennonite history in the Amsterdam Mennonite Seminary, and in 1954 he became a lector (professor) of the Amsterdam University. His chief publication was the Geschiedenis der Doopsgezinden in Nederland (Arnhem, 1952); he was assistant editor of the Mennonite Encyclopedia, being responsible for the Dutch part.
