Wieling, Sjoerd Ebeles (1772-1835)

Sjoerd Ebeles Wieling, b. 1772 at Drachten, d. 1835 at Zaandam, a Dutch Mennonite pastor, was edu­cated at the Amsterdam Seminary and served the congregations of Oldeboorn (Nieuwe Huis) 1805-1808, Midwolda-Beerta 1808-1822, and Zaandam-Oost 1822-1835. He was a curator of the Amsterdam Seminary 1825-1835. On 4 April 1819, he preached the dedica­tory sermon in the new Mensingeweer meet­inghouse, which as Inwijding was published (Groningen, 1819). Another publication of his is a ser­mon Opwekking (Zaandam, 1825), preached at Zaandam after the disastrous flood of February 1825. His brother Foppe Ebeles Wieling, d. 1871, a lay preacher, served the small congregation at Huizinge 1815-1828 and the one at Surhuisterveen 1828-1857.
