Widmarius, Abdias (1591-1668)

Abdias Widmarius (1591-1668), a Reformed clergyman educated at the universities of Heidelberg and Marburg, was preacher at Altdorf near Speyer and Neuhausen near Worms, Germany. During the Thirty Years' War he found refuge in Holland. He preached at Uitgeest, Gouda, and taught in the universities of Harderwijk and Groningen. The records he kept in Uitgeest are of value to Anabaptist history, especially his information on discussions with the Mennonites and his account of the debate at Alkmaar in 1597.
