West Haven Mennonite Church (Brookston, Texas, USA)
The West Haven Mennonite Church near Brookston, Texas, USA was established in 1978. The congregation started when families began to move to the area, and the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite Colonization Board approved the community for settlement.
The families met in homes for worship until summer 1978, when they began to rent space in the Detroit Medical Center. As the group increased in size, it met various places, including eight months at the Southside Church of God in Paris, Texas. Ministers from other congregations provided leadership until DeeWayne Koehn, and his family moved to the area in 1980.
The distance that some families west of Paris, Texas, had to travel to the Red River Valley church east of Paris became an issue. The West Haven congregation at Brookston began to serve those living west of Paris in 1981 when the group began to rent a Methodist church building in Petty. The formal organization as a separate congregation took place on 9 March 1981 when it chose the name West Haven.
The congregation built its own church facility in 1985; the first service in the new building was held on 22 December 1985. A fellowship hall was added in 1997.
The church also operates the West Haven Christian School.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Roger R. Unruh and Stanton Koehn.
