Volkertsz, Aldert (1569-1645)

Aldert Volkertsz, born 1569 at Amsterdam, Nether­lands, died there 26 August 1645, was a preacher of the Old Frisian (Bloemstraat) congregation for more than 40 years. Schijn-Maatschoen inserts a laudatory poem on him. Under the enigmatic motto, "Soo Gode wil my ga," he wrote a songbook entitled Nieu Geestelijck Liet-Boeck, ghenaempt den Bloempot (Amsterdam, 1626), which contains 56 hymns without notes. A copy of this hymnal is found in the Amsterdam Mennonite library.
