Gerard van Velzen (b. 1697), a Reformed minis­ter at Waaxens in Friesland, Netherlands, in 1741 anonymously published a booklet, Noodtwendige Voorzorg der Edele mogende Heren Staten der Provincie van Vrieslandt tegen de inkruipende Socinianerye . . . , attacking the Deductie drawn up by J. Stinstra. Van Velzen exhorted his "brethren in Christ, preachers and members of the Mennonite congregations in Friesland, by whatever names they may be called,""to hold to 'the God of their fathers, the Trinitarian God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost.’"
