Valleycliffe Christian Fellowship (Squamish, British Columbia, Canada)
Through the British Columbia Conference of the Mennonite Brethren Churches Board of Church Extension and individuals from the Squamish community, Nick Dyck of Abbotsford organized a Bible study with locals to determine if the community would benefit from a new church plant. In January of 1980, Nick Dyck, with the assistance of visiting pastors, began conducting worship services in the Stawmus Mall, calling themselves Valleycliffe Christian Fellowship. It was decided early on that, due to the varied denominational backgrounds of the initial attendees, the question of denominational affiliation was to be put on hold for the time being. When membership increased, the congregation became affiliated with the British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches in 1981.
In May 1980, John Esau began his tenure as pastor of the congregation, and in the summer of the same year Sunday school was started. The first baptism took place on 7 September. A ceremony to initiate the construction of their church building was held on 25 September 1980, but in February of the following year, John Esau resigned due to the failing health of his wife. Upon the recommendation of the Board of Church Extension, the church extended an invitation to Sam Penner to lead the congregation, which he accepted, beginning his pastorate in April 1981. The following year, the church structure was completed.
The congregation closed in 2002 and was restarted under the name of Cedar Mountain Community Church in 2003. That congregation closed in October 2006.
