Troyer, Amos P. (1856-1935)

Amos P. Troyer (1856-1935), a prominent Mennonite (Mennonite Church) bishop of Hubbard, Oregon, was born in Wayne County, Ohio, 23 October 1856, the son of Peter and Elizabeth Troyer. He married Delilah Yoder on 1 January 1878, shortly after his baptism in 1877. They had ten children. The family moved to Cass County, Missouri, and to Hubbard in 1892. He was ordained deacon in the newly organized Zion Amish Mennonite Church 18 June 1893, and bishop there 18 June 1895, where he served as an able and universally loved pastor until his death on 23 October 1935. He was buried in the Zion Cemetery. He was the outstanding leader in the Amish Mennonite churches in Oregon through out his 40-year career as bishop, and a leader in the Western District Amish Mennonite Conference until its dissolution in 1920.
