Taylor Old Order Mennonite Meetinghouse (Val Gagne, Ontario, Canada)
The Taylor Old Order Mennonite meetinghouse is located on Monahan Road, Val Gagne, Ontario, Canada. The first Old Order Mennonite families moved to this area between Matheson and Val Gagne in 2013, although investigation of the Northern and Eastern Ontario options began as early as 2012. The impetus for the exploration began in the Mount Forest Old Order Mennonite community out of the desire for cheaper land, and a wish to preserve more conservative standards further from the influences of Southern Ontario. Nine families moved in 2013, followed by six more families in 2014. In 2017 the entire settlement included about 28 households.
Initially only song services were held in the community. The first church service was held 16 June 2013 in the Railside Store by a minister of the Creekbank district. Services were held in a variety of locations until the Taylor meetinghouse (named after the township) was completed in August 2014. Services for the Taylor South district in 2017 were held in Aden Martin's shop.
An accurate count of "members" is not always available because Old Order Mennonites think of themselves as members of the church at large and not just the immediate congregation. People automatically "belong" to the congregation whose meetinghouse is closest to their home.
