Sunrise Church of God in Christ, Mennonite (Hesson, Ontario, Canada)
The Sunrise Church of God in Christ, Mennonite congregation north of Hesson, Ontario, Canada has its roots in a Missions Canada and Maple View congregation outreach to conservative Mennonite and Amish people in the Region of Waterloo and surrounding area. The first evangelistic meetings in Wellesley were held in 1988. A house for mission workers in Milverton was rented in late 1988 and 1989.
In September 1989 a church was rented in Linwood and regular worship services began. Slow growth took place from local converts and a few families moving from western Canada. The congregation formally organized in December 1992, choosing the name Sunrise. The congregation purchased property north of Hesson in November 1996, though it was several years before a building was erected.
The Sunrise Christian School began in a home in 1992 with Carol Wohlgemuth as the first teacher. In January 1996 a former schoolhouse was rented.
In 2020 the congregation was part of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. The ministers were Kevin Martin and Darren Reimer.
